Melvin G. Toburen, formerly of Holt, passed away
peacefully on July 14, 2015 with his daughters
Michelle and Jesse at his side. Mel had been
living in Los Angeles with his daughters while
being treated for mesothelioma.
He was born May
30, 1951 in Dundee, MI, to Charles and Florence Toburen. His early years were spent in Dundee.
As a young boy his family purchased and moved to
a dairy farm in Onondaga.
He was a graduate of
Leslie High School. Until moving to Los
Angeles, he was employed by Elderly Instruments
in Lansing as an appraiser of vintage guitars.
Mel was a musician his entire life and played
bass in many area bands.
He is survived by his daughters Michelle Toburen
Morales and Jesse Toburen both of Los Angeles;
brothers Gordon, Stanley, Marvin and Donald
"Doc" Toburen; sisters Carol Foreman and Mary
Stankewich; two grandsons Cameron and Connor
Rowland; and many nieces and nephews. He will
be greatly missed by his family, friends and
fellow musicians.
Private services were held at his request.
