Edward Gilbert Behm was born on Friday, December 8, 1911 at 2111 N. Orkney Street in Philadelphia. He was the son of Grover Cleveland and Elizabeth (Mugrauer) Behm.

In the 1920 census, he was living with his parents and siblings at 36 Newkirk Place in Camden City, Camden County, New Jersey.

From June of 1928 to June of 1967, he worked for the New York Shipbuilding Corporation in Camden. He held various title and was department head of Production Control when the business closed in 1967.

On Monday, June 1, 1936 at the age of 24, Edward married Beulah Belle Hawes at Turner Memorial Chapel, Germantown Methodist Church in Philadelphia.

They had two children:

  1. Lawrence Charles Behm (1939-1995)

  2. Ronald John Behm

At the birth of Lawrence in 1939, the family was living at 25 East Clinton Avenue in Oaklyn, Camden County, NJ. According to the 1940 census, Edward was making $2,080 per year. By 1943, they were living at 603 Cold Spring Avenue in Oaklyn.

Between 1967 and 1998, the family was living at 77 Sweetbriar Drive in Newport News, Virginia. Edward was employed by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock company.

Beulah who was born on Monday, November 2, 1914, passed away on February 18, 1997 at the age of 82. She was living at the James River Convalescent facility in Newport News.

On Saturday, March 25, 2000 at the age of 88, Edward married Mildred Albina Martin, age 84 at the Reformation Lutheran Church in Newport News, Virginia. Edward's first marriage lasted 61 years while Mildred had been previously married for 62 years.

Edward Gilbert Behm died at the age of 94 on April 20, 2006 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News. His body was cremated. He was living at Mennowood at the time.

Edward's brother, Norman Behm, (left) was the last family member to see Beulah's brother, John Pershing Hawes (right), during World War II. They met in Africa in 1944. John Hawes died July 20, 1945 in Paris, France.
