Ruth
J. (Rambow)(Piotter) Bordt, age 104, passed away on Saturday, December
13, 2014 at Wolf Creek Care Center in Holland, Ohio.
Ruth was born January 18, 1910 to parents Henry and Caroline Rambow (Weilnau)
in Britton, Michigan. She married Bernhard (Ben) Piotter on June 4, 1930
at her parents home in Britton, Michigan.
They had been married 52 years. He died May 28, 1982. She married Herman
Bordt April 26, 1986. He died July 27, 1987.
Ruth was a homemaker but in the late ‘50’s through 70’s she had jobs
outside the home working at the Dundee Dairy Bar, Drug Store for Hazel
Moore, then Reifert’s Hallmark Store in Dundee.
During her lifetime she was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church near
Raisinville and St John’s in Dundee where she was active in many
capacities at the church including the ladies group and Sunday School.
She is presently a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Toledo.
Ruth enjoyed gardening, traveling, going out to eat, going to garage
sales, but especially liked music. She had the ability to play an
instrument called Ukelin which was sold door to door in the 1930’s. She
re-arranged piano music in order to play it on the Ukelin and played
into her 90’s. She could also do tatting as well as artistic pursuits
and making craft items.
During her lifetime she was active in Deerfield and Dundee Senior
Citizens Centers activities and especially the Fun Bands. When she lived
at Luther Has in Temperance, Michigan she started a Fun Band there.
She is survived by her daughters Carolyn (Dan) Zimmerman of Sylvania,
Ohio; grandson John (Lisa) Zimmerman of Ottawa Lake, Michigan;
great-grandson Brayden Zimmerman; Sister Marie (Rambow) Cowen , age 108,
of LaCoste, Texas; many nieces and nephews coast to coast.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ben, brothers Alvin,
Earl and David, adopted daughter Joan, the daughter of Ben’s deceased
brother Paul.
Friends and family may call Saturday, December 20, 2014 from 9:00 AM
until services at 10:30 AM at Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in
Dundee (734-529-3156) In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our
Savior Lutheran Church, 2820 West Alexis Road, Toledo, Ohio 43613, to
Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek (to be used by pastor in the chapel) 2001
Perrysburg –Holland Road, Holland, Ohio 43528 or to a charity of the
donor’s choice. A thank you to Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek for the 9
years of care they gave Ruth and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the care
these last few months. |
