DUNDEE
- A Dundee woman was struck and killed by motorist about 9:45
p.m Saturday near her home, according to the Michigan State
Police, Monroe post. Brenda L. Heiden Flaugher, 51, of Dundee,
was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of her injuries. It
was dusk, and she was walking home “along or on the side” of
Dixon Rd. near S. Custer Rd., troopers said, after she had
visited a relative who lives nearby. The pickup driver was a
22-year-old man from Dundee, whose name has not been released.
State police are still investigating, and officers say alcohol
was possibly involved with the driver. Anyone with information
about the incident is asked to call Trooper Sproull.
Brenda L. (Heiden) Flaugher, age 51, of Dundee, passed
away suddenly on Saturday, July 7, 2012. She was born In
Tecumseh, Michigan on June 23, 1961 the daughter of
Gerald W.
(Tiny) and Dorothy F. (Rathke) Heiden.
She married Paul E. Flaugher on
June 19, 1982 at St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee. Officiating
was the late Rev. Paul Horn. Sadly her husband passed away
February 5, 2011.
Brenda graduated from
Dundee High School in the class of 1979. She loved sports and especially
spending time with her family. She was an active member of St.
John Church and its God Squad, Bible Study, the Prayer Shawlers,
the church choir and playing the hand bells.
She and her family had moved to
Omaha, Nebraska but became homesick and returned to Dundee.
Brenda recently started bowling at the Monroe Sports Center and
found she was quite good at it. She also loved to bake and made
the best cookies. She has been employed as a nursing assistant
at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn.
Brenda is survived by her
children: Melissa Flaugher-Hillman (Jessica Hillman) of Dundee,
Thaddeus Flaugher (Ash-Lee Graves) of Dundee, Kaitlynne Flaugher
of Dundee and step daughter Jena Egeberg of Omaha, Nebraska; her
mother Dorothy Heiden of Dundee; grandchildren Makenzie Malcolm
and Abie Warren; siblings Deborah (Ted) Brokaw of Ann Arbor,
Gerald M. Heiden of Dundee and Brian (Donna) Heiden of Monroe;
also many loving nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Friday from 1
– 8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee
(734-529-3156). The family will greet friends and family from 10
AM until 11 AM Services on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at St. John
Lutheran Church, 460 Riley Street in Dundee. Officiating will be
the Rev. Michael Konow, pastor of the church. In accordance with
her wishes, cremation has been held. Her cremains will be
interred at Oak Grove Cemetery in Dundee next to her husband
Paul following the services. She was preceded in death by her
husband, father and grandparents.
