Buddy E. Giebel, 82 years, a lifelong
resident of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on
Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Toledo Hospital in Toledo, OH.
Born March 20, 1930 in Monroe, MI, Bud was
the son of the late Ernest and Helen (Saylor) Giebel. Bud
attended school in Monroe and was a 1948 graduate of Monroe High
School.
A few years after graduation, Bud entered
the United States Air Force and served his country honorably and
proudly from December 29, 1950 to December 8, 1954. For his
service to country, Bud received the Korean Service Medal, The
United Nations Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal
and the Good Conduct Medal.
On September 7, 1967 Bud married his
beloved wife, the former Verdell M. Heiden, at
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Ida, MI.
Bud worked as a package design engineer in
the paper industry, working for River Raisin Paper Company,
Union Camp, and International Paper Company. He retired after 60
years of service. After retirement, Bud traveled around the
world as a packaging design engineer consultant to various
companies. Bud also served on the board of directors of Pump
Engineering and eScapes, a television network, both based in
Monroe, MI.
Bud was a member of Prince of Peace
Lutheran Church in Ida, MI, Monroe Senior Citizens and was a
former member of the Monroe Golf and Country Club. Bud won a
national contest for his design of The Strawberry Shortcake Doll
House.
Bud is survived by his beloved wife of 45
years, Verdell, a loving son, Kurt E. (Faith) Giebel of Roswell,
GA, a cherished grandson, Shiver Giebel, a brother, Robert
(Dorothy) Giebel of Monroe, a sister in law, Velda Heiden, a
niece, Tamara (Steve) Harrison and a nephew, Robert (Connie)
Giebel.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12 –
7 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in
Monroe. On Monday, January 28, 2013 he will lie in state at
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Ida, MI from 10:00 AM until
funeral services celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Ted
Kerr, III, pastor of the church will officiate. Entombment will
follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
