Glenn
D. Heiden, 74, of Monroe, passed away at 7:53 p.m. Friday, May
23, 2014 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday at Rupp Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2
p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Katherine Kolodziejczyk, pastor of Good
Shepherd Lutheran Church, will officiate and military honors
will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1138, Monroe.
Glenn was the son of Edwin and
Lela (Veitz) Heiden. He was born December 27, 1939, at the
family home on South Custer Road in Dundee. He married Kay F.
Pierce January 12, 1963 at St. John Lutheran Church, Dundee.
He
served his country in the U.S. Air Force from1958 to 1962 and
spent three of those years serving at the Hahn Airbase in
Germany and had obtained the rank of Airman First Class.
Glenn was employed at the Ford
Plant in Ypsilanti from 1963 to 1967. In 1967 he began working
at the Monroe Post Office first as a clerk and then as a mail
carrier. He retired in 1995.
He was a 1958 graduate of
Dundee High School. He had volunteered at Mercy Memorial Hospital and
also the MDA Telethon.
He was a member of the American
Legion and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and had served as past
president and treasurer of the church board. He enjoyed golfing
and had scored a hole in one in 1995. Glenn loved sports and in
his youth had played and coached softball. He and his wife had
enjoyed spending the last four winters in Florida. |
