Herman was born to Lewis and Zina Heiden. He died Sunday at the age of 86 years old.

He was a World War II veteran and served his country in Burma and India. He was a boiler maker and plumber/pipefitter for 43 years and retired from Local Plumbers and Pipefitters 333 in 1986.

He was predeceased in death by his grandparents; parents; and two sisters. He loved gardening, playing cards and going to auctions.

He and his surviving wife, Lydia, were married 63 years on May 1, 2011. They spent winters in both Tucson, AZ and Brooksville, FL after retiring. He is survived by his three children, Jerry (Midge) Heiden, Rosemary (Irv) Pasch and Yvonne Heiden; 2 brothers, Ben (Colleen) Heiden, Ed (Delores) Heiden; 3 sisters, Betty Hubble, Virginia (Orvest) Davis, Irene (Ray) Watson; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Central Free Methodist Church, Lansing, MI with Rev. Bruce Cromwell officiating.
