This is an envelope from one of the
letters sent
to Rika (Knaack) Heiden
(left)
i.e. Mrs August Heiden,
in the 1920s from relatives in
Rostock, Germany. In light of today's
postal regulations, it is interesting that letters addressed like
this actually got delivered to the correct people.
The word Maurer is German for brick layer
which was August Heiden's trade when they came from Germany.
The back of the envelope includes the Schafhausen
who was
Marie (Schmidt, Schafhousen) Dohmstritch, the daughter of
August's half-sister,
Fredericka Schmidt. |
