Hazel Edith (Getty) Bengston was born on May 17, 1910 in Crystal Springs, Kidder County, North Dakota.  She was the daughter of Robert Agnew and Maria (Cook) Getty.

In 1928, she married Joseph Bengston and they had four daughters:

1. Jennine (Bengston) Thompson

2. Joy (Bengston) Russell

3. Betty (Bengston) Frederick

4. Mary P. Bengston (died in infancy)

In 1948, they moved to Oregon City, Clackamas County, Oregon where they owned and operated Holgate Paint & Wallpaper.

Hazel died on June 14, 2001 at the age of 91 in Portland, Oregon. Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery in Oregon City. Joseph Bengtson died in 1978.
