Lavern and Sallie (Andrews) Berns built this home next to his parents, Hank and Edna (Heiden) Berns' property, in the late 1950s. Hank and Edna's house is to the east (right in this picture). Dutch and Sallie and their children, Galen, Darell, Elaine and Joanie moved here from their previous home at 8031 Dixon Road.

Originally, we had a picture of a white ranch house shown. That was a house built in the 1990s immediately next to the former home of Edna and Hank Berns. The house shown above is the house where Lavern Berns and family lived although it has been expanded and updated since that time.

I remember that in the late 1950s or early 1960s. I used to ride my bicycle a couple of miles to come here to play baseball with Galen and Darrel and others. There was an open lot to the left of the house shown above and a bunch of neighborhood kids would get together and play ball all afternoon.

On the right is a picture of Galen (left) and me (right) around 1949 when we both were one year or so old. The photo was taken long before the Berns' moved to this house, however.
