 Joyce
Marie (Heiden) Wittman was born on Friday, February 25, 1938 as the
second child of
Arthur and Mildred (Roggerman) Heiden. She was born while the family
was living at
134 Ida
Maybee Road in Raisinville Township, Monroe County, Michigan.
Joyce was baptized and later confirmed at
St Matthew Lutheran Church which was also nearby on Ida Maybee Road.
She attended the one-room schools,
Bridge School and
Stowell School through the 8th grade and then graduated from
Dundee Community School in 1955.
Joyce was very popular and participated in many activities
including being a class officer, majorette, national honor society
member and part of the girls' athletic club. She had a role in the
junior play, wrote for the Viking Press and the yearbook and was on the
student council. In her senior year, Joyce was a member of the
homecoming queen court and was elected Miss Dundee.
On
Saturday, November 23, 1957, Joyce married John Earl "Jack" Wittman at
St Matthew Lutheran Church. Jack was born on Tuesday, June 23, 1936 in
Petersburg, Michigan. He is a graduate of Summerfield High School and
was serving in the U.S. Navy at the time of their wedding.
Joyce and Jack had three children and lived in the Orlando, Florida area
from 1989 through the last 36 years of her life.
Her
first job was with La-Z-Boy Chair Company in Monroe, Michigan. Later she
worked as a secretary at several locations including her church and Dura
Temp Corp. in Ohio. Her last job was working with foster children with
her husband Jack, at Great Oaks Village in Orlando.
On Monday, August 5, 2025, Joyce passed away at the age of 87. She was
buried at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida. At the time
of her death, she had 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. |
