  Blanche Irene (Getty) Rolph was born on January 8, 1898
as the third child of
Ervin and Lena
(Oliver) Getty.
She was married to Elmer Durward Rolph in a ceremony
in Dundee, Michigan on November 27, 1919.
They had 3 children.

The Dundee Area Sesquicentennial book mentions
that Blanche was the assistant librarian when the
Dundee Library opened in 1934.
According to the 1928 obituary of her brother,
Ervin Getty, the Rolph family was living in
Millersburg, Michigan at that time.
 Elmer, who was born
September 14, 1898, passed away May 5, 1960 at the age of 61. He is
buried in the
Pleasant View Cemetery in Petersburg,
Michigan.
Blanche died on June
7, 1974 at the age of 76 and she is also buried at
Pleasant View Cemetery.

"Blanche was the gardener.
She had 'four o'clocks' planted all around the
fence and sweet peas growing and blooming on the
north side of the house, and a lovely garden. I
brought a horse chestnut home from school and
planted it by the kitchen walk. The south porch
was screened by wild cucumber vines which
provided nice shade on a hot day.
Blanche
hatched three duck eggs by a hen one spring, and
they found the little ditch that separated our
place from the neighbors and one night when we
came home here were the little ducks having a
moonlight swim and talking away in their delight
while mother hen walked the bank imploring them
to come and go to bed.
"One other night we came
home from the show and here was a big white
grunting ghost on our lawn. Mom said, "Oh, that
old hog is out again', so we had a job getting
her back in her pen.
Blanche was a born teacher
and held school daily when we were children. If Veyirl and I wouldn't play, we weren't all that
crazy about school, she would teach the dolls
propped up on stools and a chair for a desk.
She
had two little white pigs when we were kids.
They were runts, so Father gave them to her. She
called them Fanny and Floyd. Eventually they
died and we buried them, with many tears, in the
corner of the apple orchard. This corner became
burial place for chickens, birds, and whatever
else, with stones at each grave head.

Lenawee County with their children Floss (17), Blanche (12),
Veyirl (8) and Alice (5). Their eldest daughter, Adeline
(21) and her husband, Ralph Raymond Roggerman (24) were
living with them along with their newborn first child, Ervin
(<1). Ervin's aunts, Nancy (Getty) Downing and Eliza (Getty)
Underwood were listed as living nearby. |

Blanche (22) and her husband, Elmer Rolph (21) were listed
as roomers with Jene Hawkins (30) on Stevens Ave., Highland
Park, Michigan. For some reason, Elmer was listed as
"widowed" and he worked as a civil clerk in an auto factory. |

Blanche (32) was living at 520 Railroad Street with her
husband, Elmer Rolph (31) and their children, Virginia (8),
Ann (6) and Durwood (2). Elmer was a truck driver for a
grain elevator. |

Blanche (42) and Elmer (41) lived at 193 Mechanic Street in
Dundee, Michigan. Their children were Durward (12) and
Lorainne (3).
Lena Monk (65) was living with her second husband, John E.
Monk (58)at 14131 Minock Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. Living
with them was Lena's granddaughter, Ardor i.e. Ann Rolph, who
was a senior in high school at the time. |

children, Durward (22) and Lorainne (13) were living at
19136 Taft Road in Summerfield, Michigan. She was working as
a "proprietor grapher" for the public school. Elmer was a
sorter at a refrigerator manufacturer. Durward worked as an
assembler at the same factory. |
