This
house
was about a half a mile east of my parents, Art and Mildred's home at
12444 Dixon Road. When I was
five or six years old, Ma and I would sometimes walk there to
have lunch with Aunt Ruth. She was a very nice lady and made the best
waffles topped with brown sugar syrup!
I remember that they had what
looked like a BB hole in one of their front windows which
resulted in the plate of glass breaking into large pieces. Bob
had fixed it by drilling a hole in two beer bottle caps and
pulling them together on opposite sides of the window with a
small bolt. This was enough to hold the pane of glass together
without having to be replaced. Money was tight and you had to
make do sometimes.
