Marie Rudolphine Johanne Auguste (Schmidt, Schafhausen) Dohmstritch was born July 4, 1862. She was the daughter of August Heiden's half-sister, Friedericka Schmidt who is shown in the picture to the left. We suspect that the children may be Friedericka's grandchildren, Emilie on the left and Arthur on the right. Click on the picture for a larger version.

On November 21, 1884, she married Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Schafhausen in Gross Wokern. They had three children, two sons (younger one named Arthur) and a daughter named Emilie who married a man named Dahme.

Marie was widowed as a young woman and, at the age of 52 on January 26, 1918, she married Emile Adolf Bernhard Dohmstrich in Rostock and moved to the city of Ribnitz-Damgarten.

Her daughter, Emilie Marie Frieda (Schafhausen) Dahme, lived at 18 New Bramow Street (Neubramowstraße) in the port city of Rostock a short distance from Ribnitz-Damgarten.  It is also only about 30 miles from the small villages which were home to the early Heidens.

These final facts are known because Marie Dohmstrich, August Heiden's half-niece, was the one who sent several letters to Rika (Knaack) Heiden during the 1920's. Some of the letters were also signed by her daughter, Emilie. Translations of these letters may be found by clicking  here
