Sometime after 1950, Herman and Reka Heiden moved from their farm into the nearby town of Shepherd to a house at 210 Hall Street. It was where they were living when Reka died in 1954.

Their granddaughter, Evelyn (Ayris) Van Orden and her husband purchased the house from her uncle, Richard Lee Heiden, in 1966 and lived there for the next 36 years.
